Big Data Technology Conference 2013
With the rapid development of Information Technology, various industries throughout the world have been carrying out deep information revolution, for which almost every industry is confronted with the big data problem. In order to effectively cope with the challenges and fully utilize the opportunities brought by big data, industries and academia, as well as the governments of different countries have been actively making their strategic big data plans. Under this background, China Computer Federation (CCF) set up the Task Force on Big Data (CCF TFBD) in October 2012. Its mission is to investigate the key scientific and technological issues of big data, prompt the establishment of the big data discipline and its development, and create a platform of academic communications, technological cooperation, and data sharing for the research, development, and applications of big data. This conference is exactly the flag conference of CCF TFBD. It is also the biggest and most influential big data conference in China.
This conference is originated from Hadoop in China (HiC), which was founded by the Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2008, and has formed the most influential open source community of Hadoop in China. For the sake of prompting HiC, it has been hosted by CCF and organized by CCF TFBD from 2012. Particularly, in order to cater to the big data era and clarify the future direction, this year the conference has been formally renamed to “Big Data Technology Conference (BDTC)” with the theme, “Application-Driven Architecture and Technology”. Indeed, the connotation of big data should be capitalization and servicialization of data, and mining the intrinsic value of data is the ultimate objective of big data technology. With the explosive growth of data generated by various applications, in order to reduce cost and obtain better performance and efficiency, the architecture of big data systems tends to be more and more specialized and the traditional generalized data processing technologies are gradually cast off. How to achieve a cost-efficiency balance between the generalized and specialized data processing technologies, and how to solve the issues of capitalization and in-depth mining of big data, will be the key topics of this conference.
This year the conference has six tracks, namely, architecture and systems of big data, big data technology, big data applications, R&D trends of big data, and big data benchmarking, as well as intelligent transportation and big data. It will invite nearly a hundred of international and domestic top research experts and technological leaders to deeply communicate and discuss various big data issues, including acquisition, cleaning, transmission, storage, computing, mining, visualization, development platforms and application markets, which cover the whole life-cycle of big data. Besides the introduction to several novel system architectures, such as, Hadoop 2.0 YARN and Spark, the conference will investigate the up-to-date progress of streaming computing (Storm, Samza, Puma, S4), real-time computing (Dremel, Impala, Stinger, Drill), graph computing (Pregel, Hama, Graphlab), NoSQL, NewSQL and BigSQL, etc. It is expected that the conference will have more than 1,500 attendees. It will provide an excellent communication and technique sharing platform for the representatives and experts in terms of keynote talks, forums, summits, and exhibitions. We hope that this conference will be a new starting-point for seamless integration of big data technology and applications and a novel platform for close collaboration of industries, academia, and governmental departments. And finally, it makes great contribution to the research, development, and applications of big data in China.
